Peony, carrier of silence in the midst of loud worlds
No message from you but a gift
A light in my left hand as powerful as a miner’s torch
Without vanity nor false humility
You manifest the herculean strength of the excavator ant
Working in the dark while displaying your splendor
In full light for everyone who cares to see.
Your frail stem has the stamina to raise a splendid, heavy crown,
And the flexibility to bow and allow it, your flower child,
To introduce herself to Mother Earth,
Face to face, beauty to beauty.
