NOBLE AND IGNOBLE

I love words, synonyms and antonyms

As if they have taste and texture

For the first time, I found in a book

Noble and ignoble side by side

And realized the beauty of their symmetry

Placed in a neutral context

Both sounded noble

Because ignoble seems so much more elegant

Than disgusting, sordid or shameful

It sounds like it's uttered by

A mouth graced with culture

Although the venom of disdain 

And superiority flows as generously

But really, is the deed any different

And is the judge for that matter?

Words in the end just have the meaning

We give them, but they do qualify us

There is freedom

In re-assessing our definitions

And creating a new dictionary

That fit a renewed, expanded sense of "I"

That expand the perceptions of that very "me"
